Common Name: Trident Maple, Three Toothed Maple
Trident maple is an ideal tree for the small garden. Its slow growth and excellent disease and pest resistance make it almost care free once well established. The dark green leaves develop rich autumn colors of orange and red as the weather cools. Older branches and trunks develop an attractive patchwork of gray, brown and orange bark. It performs well as a container plant and is a favorite among bonsai enthusiasts.Acer buergerianum will grow best in full sun to open shade in well-drained soil but will tolerate sandy and clay soils. It is drought tolerant once established, but will have stronger growth with occasional watering. Prune only to remove poorly formed branches or dead and broken branches. (Great Plant Picks)
