Common Name: Balsam Fir
At lower elevations this fir can grow to 60-90', but in higher elevations, it will stay lower and more prostrate. It is generally stiff in habit and pyramidal in shape. With its lustrous dark green needles and dark purple cones (even when young), it is used mainly as a specimen tree. Many good conifers have come from this hardy tree.
