Common Name: Holden Rhododendrons
Holden Rhododendrons are hybrids that have elevated resistance to root rot caused by the soil pathogen Phytophthora cinnamomi. All hybrids involve at least one known disease resistant parent, combined with cold hardy plants from the Holden Arboretum research program. The combination of resistance and hardiness also provides more adaptability to full sun (in Ohio and the Pacific Northwest) and to warmer climates than traditional rhododendrons. The rhododendrons selected at Holden, and trialed for production at Briggs Nursery, have been rigorously evaluated and tested for decades.
