Common Name: Mikinori Parrotia
Still relatively new to Western horticulture, Parrotia subaequalis was first collected in China in 1998 by Japanese botanist Mikenori Ogisu, with plants from that introduction reaching the United States in 2004. It grows more slowly than Parrotia persica, typically showing a spreading habit when young before becoming more upright with maturity. In autumn, it delivers an extended display of rich reds and purples, and as it ages, develops notably attractive exfoliating bark.
