Common Name: Heartland® Catalpa
Predictably narrow form, uniform branching and upright growth habit recommend this improved selection of our native Northern Catalpa. Big clusters of purple and yellow-spreckled whit flowers are showy in early summer; set off by large dark green leaves that turn yellow-green in autumn. This prairie-tough selection, discovered in Kansas by nurseryman Doug Grimm, is heat and drought resistant and well-suited for tough urban growing conditions. Easier to grow in the nursery, it is more suitable for most landscape and street uses than seedling-grown trees of the species.
