Common Name: Dwarf Golden Threadbranch Sawara Cypress
Great Plant Picks - This hardy evergreen conifer forms a delicate, golden lacey mound in the garden. The new growth emerges bright golden yellow and holds the color throughout the growing season before gradually fading in autumn. Older foliage provides a dark green contrast, drawing attention to the thread-like golden new growth. The graceful mounding habit creates a waterfall-like effect and looks lovely when combined with boulders and in rockeries. Once established it is surprisingly drought tolerant. Threadleaf cypress will grow best in full sun but tolerate light to open shade. It adapts to a variety of soils, from sandy sites to clay, provided the location is well-drained. Once established it is very drought tolerant, requiring little to no summer watering even during prolonged droughts. It requires very little pruning and heavy pruning can ruin its unique appearance. Only prune to remove dead, broken or poorly formed branches.
