Common Name: Cascade Sunrise™ Gaultheria, Salal
Native to Western North America, this hardy evergreen shrub tolerates a wide range of conditions - from part to full shade, in dry to moist soil. ‘Cascade Sunrise’ makes an ideal native groundcover, with the added bonus of beautiful, orange-red new growth, contrasting against the dark green foliage below. Abundant, drooping clusters of bell-shaped flowers appear in spring, followed by edible, blue-black berries. Its leaves are also narrower and more sharply tapered compared to other cultivars. Vivid, orange-red new growth. Foliage is narrower and more tapered. Clusters of pale, urn-shaped flowers in spring. Edible, blue-black berries in summer.
