Common Name: Berried Treasure Box Huckleberry, Whortleberry

Native to the northeastern United Stated, Gaylussacia is a vigorous, low growing shrub, with laterally inclined branches that rise 12" to 18" from generous rhizomes. Its glossy, leathery leaves, hold year-round, turning fiery Merlot, Fall into Winter. Its white to pinkish flowers, are bell shaped. Fruits are similar to blueberries, but have fewer, larger seeds.
