Parker, not normally a fan of conifers, saw this species in Sacramento's Capitol Park & fell in love with its habit of holding on to its needles well back into the large branches –looking much like a hypermasculine hairy forearm. Branch tips are upcurved with side branchlets pendulous. Perhaps the most handsome of all conifers. Sun and well-drained soil that is somewhat moist. To 35' tall x 10' side over time. Frost hardy to -10 °F, USDA zone 6.
