The Lemoine Nursery of Nancy, France, hybridized and introduced over 200 lilacs from the late 19th through the first half of the 20th century. This cultivar, which has large spikes composed of double magenta-red florets, is considered by many lilac authorities to be one of Lemoine's finest.
