This gorgeous, golden-foliage, Japanese selection of the living fossil tree, dawn redwood is somewhat less monsterous in size than its green kin. Medium to fast growing. eventually to 100' tall x 15' wide in as many years. Full to part sun with adequate summer water and well-drained soil. Winter deciduous. Frost hardy in USDA zone 5.

A really beautiful tree: it's not just its golden color (which is, indeed, fine) but it's overall lushness... even in full sun ; heat; not as fast or as large as the species but with similar rose-orange fall color. SUN/Med

Brilliant gold new growth in spring on upright branches of reddish-tan. Architectural trunk with undulating ridges with age. Apricot fall color. Large tree.
