Plant Details
Larix kaempferi 'Diana'
Width: Minimum 5 feet , Maximum 7 feet
Great Plant Picks - Each delicate needle and branch on this unique decidous tree twists and turns like a corkscrew. The twirling blue-green needles are irresistibly soft and very touchable. In the fall they turn a golden yellow and drop from the tree so that the distinctive form is in full display. 'Diana' will grow as an upright pyramidal tree, but can be easily trained as a smaller, striking specimen by careful pruning. This contorted larch grows best in rich well-drained soil, but will tolerate sand and clay with adequate drainage. Plant it in a location with full sun to light or open shade. Provide occasional watering during prolonged dry weather. The unusual habit needs no pruning, but it can easily be kept smaller in size with yearly light pruning in winter.

A very rare fast growing form of the Japanese larch with interesting, contorted branches that will probably grow to 20'.
