Upright growth habit and stout branch structure form a sturdy, small stature tree. Tough and adaptable, its fragrant late summer blooms support pollinators at a time when little else is flowering. Showy red sepals last well into fall, providing a long season of interest. Handsome tan bark exfoliates in long papery strips.
