This is the species as Mother Nature intended it, and while it cannot compare with the gold-leaved variants for showiness, it has a quiet elegance that shade gardeners will appreciate. It's also more vigorous than 'All Gold' and 'Aureola', and more cold hardy. Spreads slowly by rhizomes and stolons, which makes it suitable for groundcover use. Often has lovely copper-orange fall color. Warm-season grass.

With the look of bamboo, the gracefully cascading blades of this native to wet, rocky cliffs in Japan form slowly spreading 1-3' mounds; often potted in Japan, it's also a fine accent, or massed groundcover. SUN-PSh/Med/acid

A dwarf green grass from Japan. Very thin stems gracefully arch upwards to 2' and resemble a miniature form of bamboo. Hakone grass spreads by very slow growing runners. Great grass for accent in a Japanese style garden.

Graceful natural beauty of green flowing mounds with airy fluffy seed heads. A harmonious complement of hosta and fern.
