A small evergreen with a columnar habit, to about 4-5' tall x 1.5' wide in 10 years, eventually 15-20' tall and narrow. The cultivar name 'Red Star' refers to the dense and delicate, star-shaped, blue-green foliage that turns to a rich, warm purple-red in winter light. Sun for best color or part shade with lean, well-drained soil and regular summer water. Frost hardy in USDA zone 5.

This cultivar grows in a columnar form. Soft, fluffy branches hold dark green needles in summer that turn purple in winter. Grows 1-3" per year. Perfect to fit in an empty garden space.
