Carnivorous plants obtain nutrients by trapping and digesting various invertebrates. Species include: Sarracenia (pitcher plant), Drosera (sundew, flypaper trap), Dionaea (Venus fly trap), and Nepenthes (tropical pitcher plant). Because insects are one of the most common prey items for most carnivorous plants, they are sometimes called insectivorous plants. They are often found in bogs where nutrient concentrations are low, but water and sunshine are seasonally abundant. Hardiness varies by species.
