This is a little known or grown species. The bark is a beautiful, rich orange red that peels off in thin, tissue-like sheets. The apple green leaves turn golden in the fall. The tree can grow from 40 to 90' in height. A very beautiful single or multitrunked tree.

A form of this med-sized Birch with "singularly beautiful bark, which is shining orange-brown with a pink ; gray 'bloom'" (Hillier). S/M-W
