Plant Details
Berberis buxifolia 'Nana'
Width: Maximum 2 feet
Great Plant Picks - This dense and compact evergreen shrub has a demure and tidy habit. Dwarf barberry is naturally rounded in form with leathery dark-green leaves and gray undersides. Butter-yellow blooms appear in mid-to-late spring followed by purple berries in the fall. ‘Nana’ is a tough drought tolerant plant and is useful as a low growing hedge. This barberry will maintain its most compact form in full sun to light shade. It prefers a well-drained soil and will tolerate sandy and clay sites. Once established it is drought tolerant, but appreciates an occasional watering during dry weather. Very little pruning is needed to maintain its form. Overly congested or over grown healthy plants can be pruned to 6 inches tall and allowed to grow back.
