Armstrong Maple is a strongly columnar tree. It is very vigorous and will grow to 40’ tall in 10 years in good conditions. Armstrong becomes a very stately tree faster than almost any other shade tree. In Spring, the reddish samaras are very noticeable.Leaf color is light green and fall color is yellow-orange to red-orange depending on the year. Armstrong is an easy tree to grow, usually needing no stake. Proper training of the young tree is important so that the tree does not develop limb crotches.
