MATSUMURAE, red. A magnificent cultivar from Trompenburg Arboretum in Holland. Deep purple-red leaves that have narrow lobes that are slightly rolled under. This is a most attractive effect that develops as the tree ages, not occurring the first few seasons. Upright and open, this tree makes a most beautiful specimen that will be the delight of any garden.

The striking leaves of this upright (15') maple give "an unusual ; pleasing effect to the whole tree" (Vertrees); each purple-red lobe rolls to form a narrow tube; color holds well, even in the sun; crimson in fall. Sun-PSh/Med

Tolerant of bright sun this upright cultivar with purple red foliage works well in a container or in the landscaped.
