MATSUMURAE, red. The handsome hues of this maple contrast well with other red-leaved forms. There is a slight purple cast to the red, with an undertone of green showing through. Midsummer, the leaves become deep green with a reddish tone. Rapid early growth, developing into a round topped form. Outside limbs appear to have a cascading shape with maturity on this sparsely branched, shrubby tree.

The color tones of this choice tree contrast well with other red-leaved forms (Vertrees); on bright-red petioles, the 7 deeply divided lobes open yellow-orange changing to purple-red over deep green; slowly to 15' X 15'. Sun-PSh/Med
