PALMATUM, green. Also known as 'Nishiki sho' which means "rough bark maple." Especially desirable for bonsai as its rough, corky bark makes the tree appear especially old. The leaves are green and of the typical palmate shape. It will eventually grow to over 15'.

The rough corky, creased ; cracked bark of this green-leaved palmatum will develop (after 3-5 yrs) whether it's trained as a bonsai or allowed to develop into a fast-growing 20-25' tree. Sun-PSh/Med

Arakawa is grown for the bark rather than the foliage; after two or three years, it starts to get thick and corky. The summer leaf color is green; fall color is gold.

After the age of 5 years you'll begin to see rough corky ridges developing on the bark. Typical green palmate foliage on this small tree.
