Korean firs are desirable for their slow growing habit, early cone production and brilliant silver color underneath the leaves. This elegant conifer grows only to 30' tall. The most notable characteristic is the cones, which are a violet-purple to blue, standing upright on the branches. Does best in the cooler climates, although reported to be somewhat more heat tolerant than other firs.

This fir is highly esteemed for "its modest size [compact to 40-60'], its decorative character [short erect leaves show their very white reverse], ; its handsome deep-purple cones [borne when fairly young]" (Bean). Sun-PSh/Med
