Slow growing, this stately evergreen can reach heights of 100' or more. Its needles are dark green above with two white bands on the underside. The Silver Fir can tolerate more shade than the typical fir but requires somewhat more moist soil.

With "dark shining green needles", this large tree is the predominant fir in the Alps; "in the moist valleys of Scotland it reaches magnificent proportions" (Bean) Sun-PSh/Med
