Nursery Guide Tips
The Oregon Association of Nurseries created Nursery Guide and NurseryGuide.com (online search engine) to connect nursery industry buyers and sellers with each other. Whether you sell wholesale plants or nursery-related products and services, your prospective customers are using Nursery Guide to find what they need.
With an average of more than 700,000 page views a year, and a print circulation of 6,500 across the U.S., Nursery Guide is an important way for buyers to find plants and suppliers. We have added new features to the online buyers guide (www.NurseryGuide.com) to maximize visibility. Membership is required for listings and every member can benefit, whether selling wholesale or to home gardeners.
When people do searches for the upcoming busy shipping season, your company and contact info will be there — listed under all the plants, products and services you choose. Your listings can be LIVE today.
Make a strong visual impression on your NurseryGuide.com profile
As an OAN member you automatically get a free profile page on www.NurseryGuide.com. But did you know you can add your logo (or main image) and up to 9 gallery images to it? It's a great way to promote your brand and showcase your most important products.
Here's how. First log in at www.NurseryGuide.com (email nurseryguide@oan.org if you need help with your login information). Select Update My Profile and then click on the Images tab (located between the Profile and Contact Information tabs at the top of the page).
You have 10 opportunities on your company profile to feature your logo and/or photos of your company, nursery fields, plants or products, and staff. The Primary image appears as the largest image on your profile. Gallery images, up to 9, are the smaller images that appear on your profile.
Name the image in the "Image Alt" box. Because search engines search the name of photos, you're encouraged to provide the plant or product name. For the "Image Title" (which appears when a mouse hovers over the image), you might think about using the name of your company.
Photos are automatically resized. Save the changes to your profile by clicking the Update button. Need help? Contact Beth Farmer at 503-582-2013 or bfarmer@oan.org.
Share your inventory availability with interested buyers
One of the key features that sets NurseryGuide.com apart from other plant search sites is the ability to post your availability lists for interested buyers. Here's how to do it. First log in at NurseryGuide.com (email nurseryguide@oan.org if you need help with your login information). Select Update My Profile and then click Availability tab and select Choose File to upload your availability list. There is also the option to add a link to your availability list. Scroll down and click the Update button. Interested buyers can then download your nursery's availability list(s). Remember to regularly update your availability lists once you have posted them on Nursery Guide! Need help? Contact Beth Farmer at 503-582-2013 or bfarmer@oan.org.
Descriptions add personality, searchability to your profile
As an OAN member you automatically get a free profile page on NurseryGuide.com. But did you know you can easily add a company description to it? This is a great way to let your personality shine through, share information about your business, and list items in which you specialize. There is a direct SEO (search engine optimization) bonus as well: both the web in general and NurseryGuide.com specifically rely on Google search. Having extra information — and keywords that describe your business in your description will should help increase your prominence in search results.
To add a description about your company, log in to nurseryguide.com and select profile tab. Scroll down to the Online Company Profile text window and add your business description. This description can be as long as you like it to be.
Next add your business description for the print version of Nursery Guide in the Book Description text window near the bottom of the page. This is limited to 50 words or less. Need help? Contact Beth Farmer at 503-582-2013 or bfarmer@oan.org.

Adding a NEW plant listing not already in our database
If you are adding a new plant into production or want to add a plant that currently is not in the OAN's Nursery Guide, log into www.NurseryGuide.com and click on My Listings. Scroll down and find:
Can't find the plant you're looking for?
Request a plant Use this form to add new plants not already in our database. Please note this may take a few business days. You will be notified when this plant is added. Plant descriptions and photos are very helpful and will be attributed to the nursery providing them.
Enter the plant information and click Submit. The OAN will verify the information and notify you when the plant name is ready to be listed.
Adding plant photos
Log on to www.NurseryGuide.com and go to your profile page. Take a look at the plants that don't have photos, or are accompanied by photos that aren't as good as the ones you have for the plant, or perhaps your photos show a different attribute of the plants. Multiple photos can be included for each plant. We want pictures that show it in the landscape, in a nursery environment, and close-ups of what makes the plant special, e.g., leaves or needles, flowers or bark. Email your photo to ckipp@oan.org. He'll let you know if we use the photos. If we do, it will be watermarked to give credit to your nursery.
Stand Out with Priority Listings
These listings are bigger and bolder, and they appear above all the others for that plant, product or service. The cost is just $10 each. Just log in to NurseryGuide.com and select the My Listings link at the top of the page. Here you'll find all your listings on one page in an easy-to-read format that is ready for you to review and edit. Click “edit” next to the plant that you want to give priority status. Then check the Priority Listing checkbox.
